• Rinsed and Evolve bring Social Media Week to Australia

We’re very happy to announce today that Rinsed Insights, in partnership with Evolve Social, will be bringing the internationally renowned social media event, Social Media Week (SMW), to Australian shores for the first time this September.

Many of you will already know SMW, but what you may not know is that it’s a global initiative that started in 2009 and now takes place in 26+ cities each year during key dates in February and September, with more than 1,000 events and 1,745 speakers worldwide. SMW Sydney will take place from September 22nd – 26th, 2014, alongside simultaneous events in other key cities around the globe.

SMW Sydney’s mission will be to capture, curate and share the most meaningful ideas, trends, and best practices with regard to social media’s impact on Australian business, society, and culture. The event will offer attendees a unique platform to network, collaborate, learn and interact with some of the largest digital brands and most exciting start-ups, and Rinsed believes it will be a valuable addition to Australia’s cultural events landscape.

Founder and Creative Director at Rinsed, Simon Micarone, commented on the news, saying “Social media is such an important part of Australian culture. We are among the most creative and active users of it, with almost 60% of the population actively using social platforms and a thriving digital economy that’s forecasted contribute over AU$100 billion to our GDP over the next 20 years. Rinsed and Evolve are excited to be bringing Social Media Week to Australia and see immense relevance and value in the event for consumers and businesses, as well as education and government”

The central theme for SMW 2014 is “The Future of Now” and SMW Sydney will cover this from a diverse range of perspectives designed to engage Australian consumers, businesses, government, students and teachers. The event program will bring the theme to life through three core streams of conversation – Innovation, Culture and Advertising and Marketing. A full programme and session guide will be published at a later date, alongside more information on venues and ticketing.

Rinsed and Evolve have also appointed seven social media thought leaders to the Social Media Week Advisory Board, who will each be contributing to the direction of the event. The board consists of; Futurist and author, Ross Dawson, General Manager of asku, Gavin Heaton, Head of Strategy and Digital at Jack Morton Worldwide, Katie Chatfield, General Manager of Edelman Sydney, Matthew Gain, Co-Founder of social media intelligence firm SR7, James Griffin, Social Strategy Director at M&C Saatchi, Tiphereth Gloria, and Founder of Mudo Media, Michael Watkins.

In addition to official SMW Sydney events, individuals and organisations will also be able to apply to host their own events as part of Social Media Week via an online form. Submissions are currently closed, but will open closer to the event.
